The society's view does matter in every sense. None of the member of society can be escaped from the social trend or so called social norm. Before today, my little mind has ever flooded with curiousity of why cant we go the track we desire, now i've found the answer, there is no way we can deviate from the social norm.
"Lars and the girls" is a story which illustrates Lars who is inflicted with a psychological disorder to continue his normal life. He develops an abnormal relationship with a doll where he thinks it is normal. They talk, sleep, laugh, eat and almost everything together. The doll with the name of bianca has been an integral part of his life and he could not live without her.
Actually, he, himself due to family factors and devastating childhood experiences, could not be able function well in the society and he is claimed to be looking for a way to get back to the normal track. He creates another life of his own which he would not realise and see the world with bianca a platforms to escape from the reality and maybe at the same time try to accept reality silently. At the moment when he feels he is ready to accede in the social line or another way saying he does not need the fantasy world anymore, he will change the script of the story to a abrupt ending in watever way he likes.
We, would never be able to understand their world. People see this group of people as a mentally ill and attributes them to the special abnormal group. Should we give them a chance to mix in the society by accepting them? Like what happens in the movie is everyone in the town turns out to be a good actor/actress to take Lars a normal guy and Bianca a living thing. You migh say the whole town goes crazy with him. But, another way of saying is the whole town is accepting and helping him with considerate attitude and of course love.
At the end of the story, Lars "annouces" the dealth of Biance and even "organized and funeral" for her. For sure, he is not acting to be upset over the dealth but he actually truly feel the hurt of his heart. To him, Bianca ia real and even more real than other thing else. The leaving of Bianca would forever left as a memory for him. Reality might seems as practical and logical to all of us but to him, reality is where he feels the presence of a subject and he can touch, kiss and care it.
The decision to actually put a end of Bianca's presence in his life would mean that he is ready to accept another lifesyles which is deemed normal and logical. Finally, Lars recoveres from the disorder and function as well in his society.
One smart student in my class insisted that the word normal is defined by the society itself and what makes the normal we think a normalilty is still decided by sociol perception which is adopted in EVERY society. And, when Lars gets back to the real life, that clearly means, there is no way u can live on your own as you are linked to the society. Disorder is a intermediate stage that is developed to a normal social life. Maybe everyone his it and it is juzt like a silent valcano that has not erupted.
